Earlier this century, I started blogging. Fifteen years ago, in 2006, to be precise. I find that astonishing.
I started on the Blogger platform, with my Creative Dabbling blog. This was where I posted on a regular basis right up until last year, when I registered my webpage address and set up this site.
As I went through all my Creative Dabbling posts, deciding which ones to transfer here, it was clear that the methods of sharing on social media had changed over time. Facebook and Twitter became available to the public in 2006, and Instagram in 2010. Try to imagine life without them now.
The types of posts I added to my Blogger blog in the early years are those I would now share on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram instead. They were short and usually pictorial posts – things I would never dream of adding to this website. It does mean, though, that people who are interested in staying up to date with me need to follow me on four different platforms.
I find all this splintering of information across multiple platforms annoying, especially when the disseminator doesn’t change the post. That’s why I don’t follow certain people on all platforms – why would I want to read the same post multiple times?
I understand why they do it – to catch all their followers no matter where they are – but it seems repetitive to me.
No matter who you follow or on which platform, let’s all stay kind. There are so many cranky and frustrated people at present and that’s reflected in nasty comments left on social media posts. It’s probably better for everyone if posting comments like that is resisted. Just be kind.
So, here’s to another 15 years of blogging. Who knows where it will take me! 😀
