Book review: Exiles

6 October 2022

Set in South Australian wine country, Jane Harper’s third and last novel in the Aaron Falk series is another thriller.

One year after Kim Gillespie disappeared at a busy local festival, leaving her baby unattended in her pram, Falk visits the valley for a christening. As he meets more of the town’s residents, he realises there’s more to the mystery than many locals acknowledge. He draws on his experience as a member of the Federal police to gather the experiences of the community and finally puts the pieces together.

This is not only a murder mystery but also the opportunity for Falk to examine his own life and what he wants from the future. The book has a most satisfactory ending that brings the series, and Falk’s desires, to a natural conclusion.

Every Jane Harper novel is a treat and I am already anticipating what she will write next.

Five stars from me.
