I really do think that bulbs are amazing. They sit there most of the year, appearing to do nothing, yet at the right time of year they burst out with fabulous flowers.
This year, I decided to grow a hyacinth bulb in a vase, which is specially shaped to support a bulb so that its bottom doesn’t rot. I kept it in the dark, in the bottom of my wardrobe. Look, the first sign of roots and a tiny shoot!
At this stage, I moved the vase into light. I kept it on my desk, near the window.
The roots had grown deep into the water and the shoot was well advanced.
After several weeks of topping up the water, this beautiful flower spike emerged from the bulb. It was worth the wait. Magic. 😀
