This is nothing new to me. Creative inertia – a tendency to do nothing or to remain unchanged – usually occurs when I am overwhelmed or my subconscious is processing something. I don’t think it is a negative thing, at least not for me. It’s simply a part of life’s ebb and flow.
I took part in a one-day workshop about writing memoirs last Saturday. It can be a scary process, completing short writing exercises and reading the results to a group. Instead, I found it helped trigger a flow of words. That surprised me.
So, while my brain is sifting through what I learned last week, I have worked in my garden each day. No music, no podcasts, no distractions. Weeding and planting – these are my filtering processes, as ever.
I feel I’m nearly ready to get serious about this writing project.
