Dahlia days are coming to an end

20 April 2021

We had our first frost for the year last week. That and the cooler temperatures are signs of seasonal change as we slip through autumn. It’s also a warning that my dahlias are coming to an end.

Their leaves are starting to yellow and the blooming is slowing but I’m still able to pick huge flowers to display in vases. I know this is just a tease. Once the frosts increase I will know the time for the tubers to sleep until next year has arrived.

Those plants have given me so much pleasure, with their colour variation and stunning shapes. I’m already planning next year’s additions, with the help from this fabulous book. (I bought my copy from Booktopia.) It’s so useful and totally gorgeous.

There is so much choice, I don’t know how I’ll decide. What a wonderful dilemma.
