Floral Feather quilt

5 July 2021

My favourite quilt block is the Feathered Star. Several years ago I made my Floral Feather quilt from pink and yellow fabrics, because I love the ‘pop’ they give each other.

I pieced the 47cm square Feathered Star block by hand. A floral Kaffe Fassett fabric features in the centre, star points and binding, while the ‘feathers’ are yellow and pink fabrics. A yellow and white striped fabric squares off the block.

To add another colour interest, I used a multicoloured stripe fabric for the border and decided to mitre the corners. Not bad for a first attempt!

Hand quilting was in order so I outline quilted the shapes in the star and stitched along the lines elsewhere. The finished quilt size is 70cm square.

This was a great project for hand stitching because its size is easily manageable. The quilt is suitable for a wall hanging. I just have to find the right space in my house to display it. 😀
