Fun with name badges

24 August 2021

Making your own textile name badge, ready for gatherings, is so much better than using a felt pen to write your name on a sticky label. It’s fun to make and shows your individuality.

I made this one some years ago, using several different techniques. I used a piece of my hand dyed orange/red fabric for the background. Next, I made a stencil from one of my stems-and-leaves drawings and then screen printed the design with gold fabric paint on the background.

Once the paint was dry, I made another stencil with my name and then used it to screen print. I cut the fabric to the size of a business card and layered it with stabiliser and backing fabric. Finally, I added three lines of black stitching and joined the layers together with satin stitch around the edges.

Have you made a textile name badge for yourself? Try it, it’s fun!
