January was a stressful month, with so many people in Australia traumatised by bushfires. Many of the fires are still burning and some people’s lives have been changed forever. In between worrying and stressing about the fires, I tried to distract myself by reading a heap of novels.
One of the stories I read introduces a new character by L. J. M. Owen. In The Great Divide we meet detective Jake Hunter, who is freshly arrived in Tasmania.
I enjoyed this mystery more than the author’s previous ones (The Dr Pimm series). I skimmed over the parts of the Dr Pimms books that were set in ancient times because, to me, they seemed like unnecessary padding.
The Great Divide, though, is a ripper story with an interesting main character. I’m looking forward to more in this series.
