Reading a new book in a series is like catching up with an old friend. You discover what has happened in their life since you last communicated and whether circumstances have changed.
The main character in Hemlock seems like one of those friends. I’ve been reading about China Bayles’ life through 28 books so I feel I know her well. China owns a herb shop in Texas and all the stories in the series relate to herbs.
She’s also called upon to investigate mysteries. In Hemlock, she investigates a missing rare book – A Curious Herbal, created by Elizabeth Blackwell in the 1730s. So, a combination of plants, manuscripts and cosy mysteries – all the things I enjoy most in my reading.
