My creative space

27 June 2026

I’m sitting in the room where I create. I fashion imaginary worlds here with my writing. Or I hand-stitch and knit, while allowing my mind to accept whatever floats through it. Occasionally, I will stop creating with my hands to write a note or two; ideas for further development or thoughts to follow up.

I read here, too. Sitting in my comfy armchair, I absorb the words of other storytellers. The heater is warming me nicely today and helping keep my fingers supple as I turn the pages.

It’s a quiet space. I don’t like background noise and I particularly dislike music playing while I create. My bookshelves are full and other books are piled up on my writing table. There’s a second table for my stitching, that contains baskets of projects waiting to be done but it’s been taken over by piles of papers relating to my family history research. It’s all out of control, if I’m honest. Even my cutting table is loaded with stuff. Decluttering and organising would probably help but, somehow, having it all around me feels cosy.

A plan of this house would label this room as a bedroom but that’s not how I use it. It’s a room of imaginative wonders and where magic happens. I am so fortunate to have this place.

Do you have a creative space, too?
