Hello! Have you had a good week?
When I looked through my diary entries since the beginning of June, I see I’ve written the same description each day: “mostly sunny with COLD winds”. The temperature varies (yes, I’m one of those people who records weather observations every day) but the constant is that, for most of the time, the wind chill factor has kept our “feels like” temperatures below zero, day and night. A little nippy here!
Do you remember old TV shows that used to show men (never women) wearing ‘lounging jackets’? The men used to come home from work and take off their suit jackets and replace them with these lounging jackets (sometimes called ‘smoking jackets’). These jackets were made of soft material and usually had a tie belt. Aah, that’s 1960s sitcoms for you – no tracksuits then!
During these cold days, I have my own version of a lounging jacket that I wear over my layers of warm clothes. It’s a soft, cuddly velour lounging jacket aka dressing gown. Such a pretty colour.
Okay, it’s longer than a traditional lounging jacket so I’m calling it a lounging gown. That way it’s clear I actually got dressed. 😊
Do you have a lounging gown or maybe one of those oodie things? (Even I baulk at those. They look draughty but hey, I’m not judging if that’s your thing.) The objective is to stay warm.
Now look, we need to make it clear to the ABC board that sacking all the organisation’s librarians and archivists should not happen. Our ABC’s archives are irreplaceable and need to be regarded as precious records of the past ninety years. As anyone with common sense knows, archives are useless unless they are maintained and retrievable.
Don’t know what I’m talking about? Here’s an article that explains what’s proposed. These are OUR records and we need to protect them. Journalists cannot do the work of the archivists and librarians; they know it and are against the proposal, too.
This week, I wrote about being a gardener and added a book review of Kathy Reich’s latest novel. Pop over and read if you feel so inclined.
Have a lovely week.
