I’m not overly fond of quilt challenges. Usually my quilt ends up too big or too small, rectangular when it should be square, or in breach of one of the other challenge conditions.
But this challenge was different. We were each given a bundle of hand-dyed pink fabrics and had to include some of each shade in a quilt, plus one fabric of our choice. We could make our quilt the size we wanted and it could be any technique or design.
I decided to practise hand appliquéing circles because I wanted to improve my skills. I used the pink fabrics as background and found a fabulous print fabric that allowed me to fussy cut the circles in two sizes. Perfect!
Never would I have chosen to use these pink fabrics but I think they work. Passionflower was born! It measures 60cm x 76cm.
Here’s a closeup, showing the hand quilting.
It was finished with a spotty backing fabric and I used the same fabric as the circles for the binding.
The critical question is: did my appliqué improve? Definitely (but I still need to practise more)! 😀
