Last month at our garden club meeting, the guest speaker talked about miniature roses and showed us a selection in flower. I was inspired to add one of these pretty flowering plants to my garden and, since the speaker had mentioned Ross Roses as a dependable supplier, I looked at their website. As I was browsing through the roses on offer, I was stopped by a photo of Popcorn, a miniature rose covered in white flowers. Suddenly, I had a flashback to my Dad’s garden.
He had a row of standard miniature roses along his driveway. One of these, and the one most admired by us both, was Popcorn. The flowers were tiny but there were masses of them. The blooms had a slight perfume and seemed to bloom for more than half the year. His plant was in a protected position in full sun and obviously loved its home.
After he died, I dug it out of his garden and transferred it to a pot to take home. Sadly, it didn’t thrive and eventually I lost it. I tried to replace it but couldn’t find it for sale anywhere until now.

Thanks to this illustrated talk, and to Ross Roses, I’ve been able to place my order for Popcorn this year. I’ll receive my bare-rooted Popcorn plant in June and be able to add another memory of my Dad to my garden.
