In 2022, I made a small quilt to welcome my goddaughter’s first baby. It was fun stitching the project, mainly because it gave me the opportunity to lay out colours in a way I thought would stimulate a baby. You can read about that quilt here.

Now that baby is a little girl and she has a sister, so another quilt was in order. This time, I wanted to use some pretty blocks I had pieced and pull them together with a wow border. Amazingly, I had exactly the right fabric in my stash – a glorious floral design by Kirsten Katz – and it was a large enough piece to create a frame for the blocks. I cut the border strips the same width as a block. It is a bright, all-over pattern so it wasn’t necessary to match the pattern. I used strips of the same fabric to bind the quilt and it was professionally quilted by Therese at Love That Fabric. Finished size is 112cm square.

It was a fun quilt to make and I love knowing a small part of me is in this child’s life.
