For the past few years, I’ve set book reading targets for myself on Goodreads but it’s not really a goal for me to read that number. I know that sounds like a contradiction but I think of the targets more as records of my book reading in a particular year.
I rarely write reviews on Goodreads but always rank books within the maximum five-star rating scale. These rankings are totally personal – what I enjoy to read may not be the same as you.
For 2021, I set a target of 60 books. I reached that today. Sixty a year is not a high number for me but I’ve found my reading concentration has been low during all the lockdowns and reading magazines is easier. I read hundreds of magazines a year, thanks to all the digital copies I download for free through Libby and PressReader using my public library memberships. They are brilliant services – do you use them? They deserve to be known more widely so perhaps they’d be a good topic for another day.
But back to Goodreads. If you’d like to know what books I have read so far in 2021, you can see them here. I think I’ll increase my target for 2022 because there are so many great new books being published and older ones to catch.
How’s your book reading progressing this year?
