Tulip time?

2 October 2023

But not in my garden.

Look at these spent tulips. They have fulfilled their purpose – grown healthy leaves, long stems and flowers. They are now in their wind-down phase and will store energy and then rest for next year’s blooming. It’s a job well done.

Something went wrong with all the tulips in my garden beds this year. They sent up short leaves and that was it. I suspect I should have better watered them, since we have had little rain during their growing season. I can only shrug and plan to do better next year.

I took both these photos at our local tulip festival a few days ago. Aren’t those orange/yellow blooms stunning?
