Ups and downs quilt

3 January 2022

As soon as I saw a photograph of Sarah Fielke’s Ups and Downs quilt, I knew I wanted to make my own version. It looked simple to piece by machine and I immediately knew I wanted to hand quilt it.

Then I remembered that Sarah makes ENORMOUS quilts and I don’t. How she does it, I don’t know. She’s obviously a better quilt wrangler than I am. 😀

I checked for pretty fabrics in my stash (ooh look! there are a lot of blue fabrics here – better use them up) and decided to make a square quilt with three zigzags instead of the five in the pattern. Here’s a detail photo so you can see my hand quilting.

Of course, I didn’t use all my blue fabrics. There are still piles in my stash for future quilts!

The pattern for Ups and Downs is in the book Hand Quilted with Love by Sarah Fielke, on page 30.
