I’m going to add posts about some of my older quilts and a few crafty tutorials from the past on this website. Instead of simply copying posts from my old blog, I’ll update them so they may reach a new audience.
I used to hand-dye fabric and embellish it with stamping and other methods of pattern-making. This small quilt (27cm x 35cm), Reaching for words, is intensively hand stitched.
Part of the stitching fun was choosing the threads. I particularly like variegated threads for work like this because they result in subtle colour variations and don’t give that ‘flat’ look a single colour can.
Here is a detail shot of a portion of the quilt so you can see what I mean.
This was a fun quilt to design and make. I do enjoy creating small quilts because they are easy to handle and I can do more work on them than I would a large quilt. Hand stitching rules in my world!

Thanks Salley. It takes ages but it’s my favourite filler.
