Recycled rainbows

26 November 2021

Scrap quilts are often the most interesting to make. This small quilt (24cm x 29cm) was fun to stitch. As usual, there’s a story behind it.

For many years, my friend Lisa Walton has been selling her hand-dyed fabrics, both in separate pieces and in kits. She often has scraps left over from cutting these fabrics.

One day when I was visiting Lisa, knowing I like fabric scraps, she gave me a handful of pieces she was about to throw out. The interesting fact about them was that they were all from the same piece of dyed cloth. I took them home and have since made several small quilts in my Recycled Rainbows series.

I started by sewing them into sections, which I then arranged into an arrangement that pleased me. I stitched the sections together and then hand quilted them with black thread and finished with black binding. Simple, but these little pieces give me great pleasure!
